How the projections work

Method

Pace. In 2018, 2022 and 2024 we know what share of the final early vote was in by each day. Today's count divided by that share says where this year is heading; the three years give a range. 2024 had a big first day and then slowed, so early in the period it sets the low end.

Who is left. For everyone who hasn't voted yet, the chance they still do — early, by mail, or on Election Day — at the rate people like them turned out in 2022. This is the floor of the range; the two estimates meet as early voting runs.

Mail. Ballots mailed × the share that came back in 2018–2022 (72–74%).

Expected. What this area's 2022 electorate looked like on the same day of early voting — who had voted by then, and how they scored.

Registered voters. 2,754,177 countywide — the Tax Assessor-Collector's roll after the October 5 registration deadline. District counts come from the voter file and are scaled to that total.
